Paperless, cost effective,
updateable, portable. The greatest thing since sliced bread - but
thinner.

What exactly
is a CD-ROM?

Well, it's an optical disc
that can be read by a PC holds vast amounts of data. That data can
be in the form of text, pictures (moving and still) and sounds (voice
and generated). It can also hold the programs necessary to interpret
the data and present it to the computer user in a useful and meaningful
manner.

So, how would
I use it?

Lucas Software saved a major
motor manufacturer thousands of pounds in 1997 and made their lives
a lot simpler into the bargain.

How?

A modern car has literally
thousands of components and your garage mechanic needs to now how
each part works and how it links to the rest of the car. (well,
mine does anyway).

They used to send tons of paper
based manuals to over 200 service centres around the country, several
times a year.

That's a lot of paper and a lot
of cost.

Introducing a new model means
new manuals, for everybody.

We took hundreds of their technical
bulletins for all of their product range and put them onto a single
CD organised in a logical format (which they preferred).

Added to that, the facility to
search the CD-ROM, on various criteria defined by the client and
display the resulting information in a useful way gave them a value
added product which they can now distribute in a quick and cheap
fashion.

Everybody benefits. The client
benefit. Their dealers benefit. If you are a customer, then you
benefit.

Heaven forbid, but if your local
garage had a fire and lost its entire stock of technical bulletins,
no problem, a complete set would be in the post overnight.
